The Nowak Lab, located within the Institute of Structural Biology at the University Hospital Bonn, focuses on Structural and Chemical Biology research, specializing in small molecule induced proximity. Leveraging our deep understanding of Targeted Protein Degradation we investigate the functional consequences of small molecule-induced proximity and aim to utilize this knowledge for patient benefit by developing tools to study the neo-interactome, rewire cellular processes, and explore therapeutic applications in cancer and immunology.
The Nowak lab (https://www.nowak-lab.com/) seeks a highly motivated individual to join the team as a Research Technician. This individual will be an important member of our research team and will be centrally involved in assisting various research projects utilizing several techniques that are fundamental to the workflow of the Nowak Lab. In addition to the bench-based research, responsibilities will also include some aspects of laboratory management and organization. Training is available in all aspects of experimental research.
Your tasks
Laboratory organization, ordering
- General laboratory organization: ordering chemicals and consumables; organizing and managing laboratory supplies; cleaning and sterilizing dirty equipment, glass vessels and pipettes; preparing shared solutions and materials
Operating laboratory equipment, care and maintenance
- Set up, adjust, calibrate and operate standard laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, pipettes, plate reader (Pherastar FSX), pH meter
Molecular biology
- Preparation and isolation of DNA from plasmids and genetic material, expression of proteins in E. Coli, insect and mammalian cells, protein purification with affinity resins
Cell culture and biological or biochemical assays
- Maintain mammalian and insect cell cultures and perform degradation assays using GFP/mCherry cells and measure degradation using flow cytometry or imaging, perform small molecule western blots and analyze results. Perform standardized biological or biochemical assays and laboratory analyses, e.g. TR-FRET, FP, cell-based assays such as CellTiter Glo, NanoBRET assay or flow cytometric GFP/mCherry assay. technology applications to perform work duties
Processing the data obtained in the laboratory on the computer, creating findings
- Compilation of experimental data on a computer, analysis and interpretation of results to produce summaries of results for presentation
Experimental reports and records
- The employee is responsible for keeping a detailed notebook of all work-related activities in electronic form
Quality management
- Monitor work in the laboratory to ensure that environmental, health and safety information and standard operating procedures specific to the Institute of Structural Biology are adhered to
Your profile
- Bachelor’s Degree required with a major in biology or chemistry preferred
- Knowledge of information and techniques related to either biology, chemistry, or medicine
- Research experience (>1 yr) in molecular biology or biochemistry preferred
- Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to keep accurate experimental records
- Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work-related issues and problems
- Must have close attention to detail and consistent work habits
- Ability to work within a team environment
- Must have good time management
