The University Hospital Bonn (UKB) is a maximum care hospital with more than 1,300 beds. Our more than 9,000 employees take on tasks in research, teaching and patient care as well as in public health at the highest level. In the science ranking (LOMV) and in the economic result, the UKB is number 1 of the university hospitals in NRW and in 2021 had the third highest case mix index of the university hospitals in Germany.

The Institute of Medical Biometry, Informatics and Epidemiology (IMBIE) of the University of Bonn, in cooperation with the Department of Anesthesiology, are looking for a:

Doctoral research fellow (100% TV-L E13)

The position is initially limited to a 3 years contract due the project, with the primary purpose of earning a methodological Ph.D. in the Working Group Statistical Methods in Epidemiology in collaboration with the Clinical Study Center Anesthesiology.

Requirements 

  • Outstanding degree in statistics, data science, mathematics, computer science, or related field with an interest in applications in life sciences
  • A strong passion for developing novel statistical or data science methodologies, coupled with experience in programming
  • Genuine interest in medical research questions and clinical trials
  • Very good communication and team working skills along with proficiency in both written and spoken English (German is a plus, but not compulsory)

Responsibilities

  • Methodological research in the area of advanced statistical modelling of medical data
  • Development and implementation of statistical machine learning algorithms
  • Data analysis for clinical trials and research projects from the Anesthesiology department
  • Presentation of the results at international and national conferences and publications in high-ranking statistical and biomedical scientific journals
