At the Medical Clinic I, University of Bonn Medical School, Germany is available a part time position (65 %) at Department of Nephrology: PhD student (m/f/d).
The position starts as soon as possible and is available for three years with the possibility of an extension.
The von Vietinghoff group (https://www.bonn-innere1.de/ag-vonVietinghoff.html) that is affiliated to the excellence Cluster “Immunosensation2” focuses on dysregulation of inflammation in kidney disease. Patients with end stage renal disease require renal replacement therapy in order to survive. Peritoneal dialysis uses the peritoneal membrane as a biological filter to remove excess water and toxins. However, this therapy is limited by membrane fibrosis, a process that is accompanied and promoted by inflammation. Our recent publications have addressed mechanisms of macrophage interaction with the peritoneal lining, mesothelial cells for propagation of peritoneal fibrosis (Helmke, Nordlohne et al., Kidney international 2019) and elucidated mechanisms of T cell polarization in peritoneal dialysis (Helmke, Hüsing et al., 2021).
