Postdoctoral fellow (m/f/d) – Immunopathogenesis of acute lung failure (ARDS)

The full-time position is available for an initial period of three years due to a project.

The research focus of our group addresses clinically relevant questions in the field of critical care medicine by bench-to-bedside-and-back approaches. We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative postdoctoral fellow with an interest in translational biomedicine to study fundamental aspects of the immunopathogenesis of the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), a common cause of acute lung failure in critical ill patients. The project aims to understand how the release of metabolites and endogenous danger signals by the host shape the immune response in ARDS (Karagiannis et al. Nature 2022, Peukert et al. Am J Respir Crit Care Med 2021). This key position provides the opportunity for translational research in one of Germanys largest ARDS center with excellent collaborations with clinician scientist (www.bonhanza.com) and immunologists of the ImmunoSensation Cluster of Excellence Bonn. The candidate will have the opportunity to obtain additional external funding and develop an independent research program during the postdoctoral training.

We are looking for an enthusiastic scientist with a desire to work on a challenging and rewarding project in a friendly and supportive interdisciplinary team of biologists, physician-scientists and intensivists. Applicants with Ph.D. degree and graduate students expecting to receive the degree within six months will be considered. The ideal candidate will have a background in immunology, cell biology, biomedicine or related fields. The position will involve (but not be limited to) planning and conducting in vivo mouse modeling of acute lung injury, ex vivo and in vitro cell culture experiments, histology and microscopy including widefield and confocal imaging, molecular biology techniques to analyze RNA and protein expression in cells and tissues, and next generation sequencing (both bulk and single cell opportunities).
